Special Mission for Mrs. Pearl

Nickel and Horn: Volume 2

In a Nuthshell:
Oh my goodness! Mrs. Pearl has disappeared! Nickel and Horn are determined to take on the case – even Waggy the dog wants to be part of the search for his beloved Mrs. Pearl. A fast-paced trail search leads them through the rainy streets of the town. They explore the surroundings and question witnesses: Bindi the budgie from the Asian market, the conceited Yorkshire Terrier lady Lazy, the Mandarin ducks who fled from the zoo who know Mrs. Pearl from earlier. But dangers are lurking everywhere and Nickel and Horn must muster all their courage to face them. Luckily, they find Mrs. Pearl: in the middle of the snowy town park.

Synopsis:
In the winter after the turbulent rescue of the inner-African trump animal, peace reigns at the home of the old detective Mr. Lock. Remembering his broken wing, the parrot Horn has lost interest in adventures and is content to listen to the detective stories that the lady guinea pig Nickel reads out to him by the fireplace. The two of them even get on splendidly with Waggy and Mrs. Pearl, until the housekeeper no longer appears two days before Christmas and cannot be contacted. Fearful Nickel reckons that something has to be done. What if Mrs. Pearl needs their help? In the end she convinces the sceptical Horn and then also Mr. Lock: Nickel and Horn should dash to Mrs. Pearl’s home and see what is going on.
What they find there confirms Nickel’s fears: a bowl of cold noodle soup is still standing on the kitchen table as if Mrs. Pearl had just popped out briefly. Something is not right here. Worried about Mrs. Pearl, but too week himself to take care of it, Mr. Lock allows his animals to take over the case – even Waggy the dog does not want to miss out on looking for his beloved Mrs. Pearl. However, they must be at home before darkness falls, instructs Mr. Lock, and they must not for one moment consider separating, and for Nickel he quickly makes a safety helmet out of a tin cup. Then an exhilarating trail search starts through the rainy streets of the town.
They explore the surroundings and question witnesses. Bindi, the budgie from the Asian market, the conceited Yorkshire Terrier lady Lazy, the Mandarin ducks that fled from the zoo, who know Mrs. Pearl from earlier when she always brought lots of bread. However, danger is lurking everywhere and Nickel and Horn must pluck up all their courage and skill to solve the case.
Finally, they find Mrs. Pearl: with a vagabond in the snowy town park who has taken the completely confused woman in. It is only when Mrs. Pearl sees her Waggy and he licks her hand that she remembers everything again. Happy to have survived this adventure, they all return together to Mr. Lock. There is a delicious soup – and in this cold even Nickel and Horn eat cooked vegetables.
